BEAM Summer Internship

Program Elements:
- Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students from across our UMass campus system engage in on-site research at UMass Chan
- Mentorship is provided by clinical and/or basic science faculty, who define and teach students about clinical-translational research problems
- Students are embedded within an active research team to develop specific technical skill sets and conduct structured hypothesis-driven research
Approach:
- Financial compensation is provided, and need-based travel or housing assistance may be available for individuals with demonstrated need
- Internship duration is 10 weeks (40 hrs per week)
- Didactic sessions (2 hrs per week) focus on research skills and professional development
- Interns are expected to test a defined research hypothesis and will present the results of their work at the end-of-summer UMCCTS research symposium
Eligibility:
- Undergraduate Biomedical Engineering students (rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors) enrolled at UMass Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth or Lowell
- Availability to conduct on-site work for the duration of the 10-week internship experience (typically late May through early August)
- Prior research experience (through BEAM Independent Study or other context) is preferred
