Flaviane Silva Awarded a TSC Alliance Fellowship
Date Posted: Tuesday, December 03, 2024Postdoctoral researcher Flaviane Silva was awarded a prestigious TSC Alliance Fellowship. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in many different organs, primarily in the brain, eyes, heart, kidneys, skin, and lungs. Some people live with few symptoms while others need continual support. There is no cure. However, research has shown that early diagnosis and intervention are crucial for achieving optimal long-term outcomes. Advancements in research continue to deliver new and improved therapeutic options.
Dr. Silva’s project aims to understand the role of a protein called Rag GTPase in renal cystic diseases and Renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
The TSC Alliance invests in early-career researchers to drive innovative research and to foster a diverse group of researchers dedicated to their shared mission.
Her project could also be linked to understanding kidney biology, which is relevant to the type 2 diabetes and obesity studies in the Guertin lab and other PMM labs.
