Why did I choose to train with FHCW? I was fortunate to experience the UMass Family Medicine program in Worcester firsthand before applying, and it immediately felt like a perfect fit. I loved the supportive, friendly environment, the broad clinical exposure, and the strong commitment to community-focused care serving diverse and underserved populations—which made it the ideal place for my training." Hobbies: Cooking traditional dishes, exploring nature on hikes, and enjoying good novels after a long day, especially crime novels (yes, I’m a devoted fan of Agatha Christie books!) Fun Facts: When I'm stressed or need to unwind, I rewatch Friends! It’s my favorite comfort show - despite what my husband says!

Family Medicine interests: Environmental health/climate justice, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ care, comprehensive care Why did I choose to train with FHCW? UMass people are the kindest and most mission-driven I met during my application process. I love how deeply rooted in the Worcester community this program feels and that everyone at WFMR- from residents to faculty to staff- is committed to providing high quality, comprehensive care to underserved patients and families. I am excited to train surrounded by people who can mold me into the doctor I want to be. Hobbies: Running, hiking, Youtube dance workouts, vegetarian cooking, and I recently started learning to fiddle! Still very much a beginner! Fun Facts: The summer after my first year of med school, I co-led overnight canoeing trips with 8-11 year olds in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and Canada using only maps and compasses to navigate.

Medical School: Saba University Undergraduate: MCPHS, Boston Hometown: Douala, Cameroon Family Medicine interests: Global Medicine, Behavioral Health, Caring for Underserved Communities. Why did I choose to train with FHCW? The program’s strong sense of community and the diversity among the residents, faculty, and staff. During my interview day, I met wonderful people and immediately felt a genuine connection. I was seeking a residency that offers comprehensive training with a global health track. I’m also happy to stay in Massachusetts, close to my family. Hobbies: I enjoy watching standup comedies, gardening and growing my produces, trying out new foods, traveling, dancing to all types of music. Fun Facts: I once climbed the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, standing at 2,854 feet. I complained the entire way up and took frequent breaks, but I was extremely proud when I reached the top. I’ve also landed on Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport, which has the shortest commercial runway in the world!

Medical School: St. George's University Undergraduate: UMass- Dartmouth Hometown: Lagos, Nigeria & Milford, Massachusetts Family Medicine interests: Full spectrum FM, FMOB, women's health, lifestyle/preventative medicine, nutrition, behavioral health, health advocacy/social justice, medical education, outpatient procedures. Why did I choose to train with FHCW? I fell in love with the UMass curriculum for family medicine and the people. I was looking for a program that will train me to be the type of FM physician I want to be and I found that at UMass. I am thrilled to partner with community organizations, work with the underserved population, learn procedures, and more. Furthermore, Worcester has been my second home since moving to the US and I am excited to serve the community that has supported me. Hobbies: Cooking, walking, yoga, and going to farmer's markets. Spending time with my family and friends. Fun Facts: I love making body butters and doing my nails. I can spend hours creating nail designs and researching ingredients to add to the butters.

Medical School: Ross University School of Medicine Undergraduate: College of the Holy Cross Hometown: Oklahoma City, OK Family Medicine interests: Obstetrics, full spectrum care, outpatient procedures Why did I choose to train with FHCW? The people! I met some wonderful people on my interview day and throughout the recruitment process. In all my interactions, I felt how supportive everyone was of each other and could really feel a sense of community. Combined with the training and resources provided by a university health system, this program is well equipped to develop me into the best physician I can be. Hobbies: Traveling, cooking, trying different cuisines, watching sports (football, basketball), watching movies, reading Fun Facts: I love to travel and try foods from different cultures. Ice cream is one of my favorite desserts and, in college, my roommates and I hosted a Ben & Jerry's Face-Off where we put 16 different flavors of Ben & Jerry's ice cream in a bracket (March Madness style) to determine which one, out of the 16, was the best. It was close, but Chubby Hubby won in the end.

Medical School: KIST Medical College (Nepal) Hometown: Kathmandu, Nepal Family Medicine Interests: Global Medicine, Sports Medicine, Health Advocacy Hobbies: Watching soccer and other sports, Reading fiction, Cooking, Hiking/Trekking Fun Facts: I have trekked to a maximum height of 4380m (14370ft) above sea level, complained throughout the way to my best friend and yet enjoyed every part of it. At one point of the trek, it even felt like we were headed towards Mordor (LOTR reference). I am also a huge soccer enthusiast and have been a Manchester United supporter for 17 years now and influenced my whole family to watch and be obsessed with soccer but failed to make them support the same club as me, tsk tsk tsk.

Medical School: Wake Forest University School of Medicine Graduate: MS in Biology, Wake Forest University Undergraduate: Wake Forest University Hometown: Salisbury, NC Family Medicine interests: Preventive medicine, hospital medicine, sports medicine, women’s health, addiction medicine, and medical education Why did I choose to train with FHCW? So many reasons! As an undifferentiated future FM doc, I was looking for a program that would provide me with strong full-spectrum family medicine training so I can take my career in any direction I choose after graduation. Being able to care for many Spanish-speaking patients was also very important to me. Add to that a great community of residents, faculty, and staff along with a great location and I couldn’t pass it up. Hobbies: Rock climbing, mountain biking, skiing, napping with my 2 cats (Charles and Luna), finding delicious food with my partner Fun Facts: In a previous life, I designed, built, and operated drones for environmental monitoring around the world and I have the distinction of being the first foreigner to get a drone operator’s license in Peru.

Medical School: Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine Undergraduate: UMass-Boston Hometown: Sudbury, MA Family Medicine interests: Comprehensive Women's Health, Mental Health, Lifestyle Medicine, LGBTQ+ Care Why did I choose to train with FHCW? This program has such a wonderful atmosphere! I also love the focus on Women's Health (Menopause, Birth Control, Prenatal Group Visits), as well as prioritizing health equity and patient empowerment. This program also allows me to engage in a diverse patient population and be a part of a vibrant community. Hobbies: I love to garden! In the summertime you'll find me knee deep in my tomato plants and covered in sunscreen. On cooler days, I like to hike with my husband Tom and our rescue pup, Casey. I'm also an avid reader with a penchant for mystery novels. Fun Facts: I started my medical career at the age of 19 as an EMT at a small Fire Department. I continued working as an EMT as I pursued my undergraduate degree at UMass Boston. I loved taking care of people and learning more about their stories, which inspired me to go to medical school to pursue primary care. Now I take care of patients as a physician at the same hospital I used to transport my ambulance patients to!

From meeting residents at FMEC to getting to know the program during my virtual interview, I recognized how strong the UMass community is and how much primary care and social justice are valued by every member of the team. Queen Street felt like a unique space to undergo excellent family medicine training while learning how to care for an underserved community and build local connections. Hobbies: Hiking and spending time outside, cooking and exploring new cuisines, reading, knitting, playing board games Fun Facts: I moved to Vermont from India when I was seven years old. As a child, I had two pet zebra finches named Bob and Cindy. I'm super excited to get my first cat during residency!

UMass WFMR is a program where I knew I would get a full-spectrum, community-immersed professional training with supportive, down-to-earth people. I felt that the program had the best of both worlds in terms of size- with a small program feel at individual health centers while still being part of a larger inter-site community. Additionally, the “Physician as Leaders” curriculum really imparted on me that I would receive extensive training in what roles a physician can play as teachers, community partners, and advocates. Hobbies: Photography, Fashion, Digital Painting, Cooking, Singing/Playing Piano, Watching Anime Fun Facts: My partner and I have a rescue cat named “Miso Soup” |

I wanted a vigorous full-spectrum residency training in a compassionate, supportive and diverse environment. Catering to underserved communities was equally important. UMass represented all of these and more. Worcester is also a nice place to live! Hobbies: Reading, listening to music, writing short stories and poetry.
Fun Facts: I have watched the entire nine seasons of ‘The Office’ more than three times and I’m pretty sure I am going to do it again.

Medical School: Boston University School of Medicine Undergraduate: Harvard College Hometown: San Francisco, CA Family Medicine interests: Addiction medicine, immigrant health, preventive medicine, health policy and implementation research. Why did I choose to train with FHCW? I wanted a residency program with a focus on teaching and also supportive faculty mentors who are invested in the success of their residents, and I found those qualities at UMass. Additionally, UMass has excellent training in addiction and preventive medicine, which are my top two areas of interests. I am confident that UMass will help me reach my full potential as a full-spectrum family medicine physician. Hobbies: Acrylic painting, piano, violin, journaling, going to amusement parks, ziplining, working out Fun Facts: I was born in China and moved to SF when I was seven years old.
