From Our Program Director
Welcome to UMass Chan Worcester Family Medicine!
We recognize that residents come to us with different experiences, and we strive to meet each resident where they are at, providing clinical learning opportunities and support starting early on and continuing throughout residency.
We have highly adaptable elective and Preparing For Practice rotations that residents can tailor to pursue their passions in family medicine and we coach our residents in the development of self-reflection and self-directed learning skills.
Our faculty group is made up of folks who are dedicated to teaching and have wide-ranging areas of expertise within family medicine, including hospital medicine, HIV & viral hepatitis, college health, perinatal care, sports medicine, legislative advocacy, healthcare administration and leadership.
Our faculty serve as coaches to our residents and partner with residents in the development of their scholarship skills through working on quality improvement initiatives and writing publications. From faculty teaching and role modeling, residents obtain the skills they need for lifelong learning and sustainable long-term family medicine practice.
The greater Worcester community that we serve is incredibly diverse and includes a large, underserved population. We care deeply about our patients and about providing access to high-quality, equitable care. When residents match to our program, they join one of our three health centers, where they have the privilege of building relationships as the primary care physician for a panel of patients over the course of the three years of residency.
Each health center is a medical home to a unique micro-community within the greater Worcester community: Barre Family Health Center serves a rural community of patients about 40 minutes outside of Worcester. Hahnemann Family Health Center serves an urban, socioeconomically diverse population. Family Health Center of Worcester is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves an ethnically diverse, underserved population.
Residents become an integral part of their health center’s team while they also integrate into the larger residency community by working side-by-side with residents From the other health centers on shared inpatient rotations.
If you are applying to our residency, please see our admission requirements. We welcome applicants from both US and international medical schools. I invite you to read more in the links above about what makes UMass Worcester Family Medicine Residency an excellent place to grow and learn.
