department core values: patient centered care, discovery innovation and scholarship, DEI, teamwork, professionalism and accountability

Our Department has 16 Divisions and includes over 370 active faculty members. We care deeply about each other, our community, and are dogged in our advocacy for our patients. Our world-class faculty are developing innovative approaches for the prevention and treatment of disease through internationally recognized and world-class research programs, including the Programs in Innate Immunity and Digital Medicine. With 80 principal investigators, the Department of Medicine secured over $70 million in funding in FY24. We contribute to a vibrant academic community at UMass Chan, where we rank in the top 30 of NIH-funded academic institutions.

Our clinical partner, UMass Memorial Health, is the largest healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts, featuring three acute care hospitals, and a wide array of clinical services ranging the entire continuum of care.
