Faculty: Emeritus Process


Overview

In accordance with the Academic Personnel Policy (APP), section 3.15, emeritus status is awarded to a Faculty Member who has permanently retired. 

Emeritus status is granted only to an individual who has served as a UMass Chan Medical School Faculty Member for ten or more years and has attained the rank of Professor.


  1. Requests for Emeritus status should come from the Division Chief to Gennie Ludovico, Program Manager II.

  2. After eligibility is confirmed by Dr. Fitzgerald, Executive Vice Chair, and with approval by Dr. David McManus, Chair, faculty should submit materials to Gennie Ludovico:

    a. Cover letter including a 1–2-page summary of key accomplishments in health care delivery, investigation, education, and academic service.

    b. Current CV

  3. Gennie will prepare a written request for approval from Dr. McManus. 

  4. The materials will be sent to the Office of Faculty Affairs for final approval by the Provost & Chancellor.

  5. A letter of confirmation of the award of Emeritus will be sent to the faculty member by the Office of Faculty Affairs.
