Faculty Joint & Secondary Appointments
Overview
In accordance with the Academic Personnel Policy (APP), section 3.3, faculty may have appointments in more than one department within the TH Chan School of Medicine or school at UMass Chan Medical School. These additional appointments are either joint or secondary.
Joint Appointment. A Faculty Member may have a joint appointment in two or more Departments or Schools that have joint fiscal responsibility for the Faculty Member.
Secondary Appointment. A Faculty Member may have a secondary appointment in one or more Department or School for the purpose of contributions and collaborative relationships in any of the mission areas.
Process
The Division Chief or Department Chair will submit the following to Gennie Ludovico:
- A letter of request that includes if this is a joint (shared fiscal responsibility) or secondary appointment.
- The candidate's CV
- Submit the letter of request to the department chair for approval
- Submit the DoM department chair letter of request & faculty member's CV to the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) for administrative approval.
