Faculty Retirement
Overview
This is the process for AFTER retirement has been processed and confirmed through the employer.
Faculty employed by UMass Chan Medical School will need to work with HR and the State Retirement Board for their retirement. Information on how to initiate the process can be found on the HR website here.
Faculty employed by UMMH will need to work with their HR to process their retirement.
Changing Faculty Appointment to Retirement
This process is to change a faculty member, upon retirement per the above, to retired. Retired faculty can either maintain on the faculty as an affiliate or post-retiree employed. Post-retiree employed is upon agreement by the UMass Chan Medical School HR and the State Board of Retirement.
UMass Chan Employed Faculty

Upon receipt of notification by the State Board of Retirement of the date of retirement, the faculty member should submit the information to their division chief.

The division chief will inform Gennie Ludovico of the retirement date and if the faculty member will be maintaining a faculty appointment as an affiliate or as a post-retiree employee.

Gennie will notify the Office of Faculty Affairs of the status change for the faculty member.
UMMH-Employed Faculty

The UMMH administrator will inform Gennie Ludovico of the retirement and state whether the faculty member will maintain a faculty appointment.

Affiliate faculty may retire from their employer, but they are not considered “retired” from their faculty appointment as they were not employed by UMass Chan.
