Faculty Mini-Tenure Process

Overview

In accordance with the Academic Personnel Policy, section 4.5, A Faculty Member appointed in the Tenure Track with a Probationary Period must receive a formative evaluation of their progress toward the award of Tenure during the fourth year of their Probationary Period (“Mini-Tenure Review”). This evaluation is not included in the Tenure Dossier and does not affect review of the candidate for the award of Tenure, either positively or adversely. This details the process for completing the Mini-Tenure Review.

Mini-Tenure Process

  • The Office of Faculty Affairs notifies the faculty member when their Mini-Tenure Year starts.
  • The DoM Tenure Team will ask the faculty member to complete the documentation for the mini-tenure review to be submitted to the DoM Tenure Team.
  • The candidate submits their CV in the UMass Chan Medical School format, a narrative statement, a Mini-Tenure Review Data form, and any other materials they want to be considered for the review for their mini-tenure review.
  • The mini-tenure dossier is reviewed by the Department Tenure Committee, which submits a letter of recommendation to the department chair; this letter is added to the candidate's file.
  • The department chair writes a letter of recommendation, which is added to the candidate's file.
  • The department chair meets with the faculty member to review the DoM Tenure Committee's recommendations.
  • The mini-tenure dossier is submitted to the Office of Faculty Affairs.
  • The mini-tenure dossier is reviewed and approved by the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.
