Mitchell Gitkind MDMitchell Gitkind and Colleagues Analyze Impact of “Faculty Quality Collaborative” in a Recent Study

Mitchell Gitkind, MD, professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, along with other faculty members from the Department of Medicine and Division of Health Systems Science, recently published a study in the American Journal of Medical Quality that analyzed survey data collected from 100 UMass Memorial-based physicians who participated in the Faculty Quality Collaborative (FQC) between 2021 and 2024. FQC is a 1-day Lean training program jointly supported by UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Memorial Health System. Content was delivered to 8 cohorts, and the survey study aimed to identify the impacts of participation on subsequent initiatives. Data showed downstream positive impacts on those who completed the program, including increased contribution to QI projects, dissemination of learnings, and enhancement of educational, clinical, and administrative activity.  These findings suggested that the physician-targeted FQC training can lead to meaningful engagement in QI and support of broader educational and clinical goals.

Physician faculty members interested in reserving a spot in the next FQC cohort planned for Friday, May 1, 2026, should email Christina Breault (christina.breault@umassmemorial.org).  FQC is a yellow belt-level Lean training centered around a one-day immersive session with asynchronous pre- and post-work. The entire footprint is about 13 hours, and CME credits are available. More details will be forthcoming.
