Developing a Treatment for Previously Non-Healing Wounds in People with Type 2 Diabetes

The Messina Lab has received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to test a novel therapy we’ve developed to treat wounds in older adults with type 2 diabetes.  We've previously developed and patented a biotherapeutic, that's currently being tested in our unique humanized mouse models.

He performed a bypass on Katy when she was three years old.  At age 21, she needed it again and asked him to do it.  The first bypass was only expected to last about 10 years.  Dr. Messina led the only team in the northeast that performed this risky surgery.
