Core Services & Rates
The following are provided on a fee-for-service basis to researchers at UMass Chan Medical School, other academic institutions, and for-profit companies. Contact us to discuss how we can help advance your research and obtain a quote.
Metabolomics
Relative quantitation of polar and non-polar metabolites using multiple chromatographies to cover different classes of metabolites.
Lipidomics
Relative quantification of lipids using an untargeted LC-MS workflow that includes the use of an Avanti EquiSplash internal lipid standard to give increased confidence in lipid annotation.
Fatty Acid Analysis (FAME, SCFA, Sterols)
Relative quantification of fatty acid methyl esters, short-chain fatty acids, sterols, and related metabolites using GC-MS.
Stable Isotope Tracing
High-resolution mass spectrometers are used to perform stable isotope tracing experiments, which measure the relative pathway contributions of specific metabolites and metabolic pathway activity. We will provide guidance on experimental design, choice of isotope tracer(s), and data analysis and interpretation.
Quantitative Metabolomics
Relative quantitation of a broad range of metabolites across the same biological matrix in different conditions is generally sufficient for most experiments. Occasionally, knowing the absolute (molar) quantity of one or two metabolites in samples is necessary (e.g., when comparing levels of a target metabolite across different tissues or organisms). For this, we perform quantitative metabolomics, in which a matrix-matched (where possible) standard curve is prepared for the target metabolite and run alongside the experimental samples. Additional isotopically labeled internal standards are also required. To ensure accurate target metabolite quantitation we perform method development on both the target metabolite(s) and the biological matrix, and require our customers to provide standards.

Prices
- Current pricing is based on our customers extracting their samples.
- Pricing includes the cost of extraction reagents, our typical internal standard mix, and LC-MS vials.
- Additional charges may apply when the use of other standards is required or when samples are run in multi-well plates.
- We plan to offer metabolite extraction as a service shortly.
