Equipment
Scanco
High-resolution micro-computed tomography
- Quantitative and qualitative assessment of rodent bone microarchitecture.
- Able to scan ex vivo rodent bone samples that are up to 36 mm in diameter and 80 mm in length at resolutions down to 8 µm.
- Specimens can be scanned in PBS or 70% ETOH, such that these specimens can be used for subsequent histologic or other analyses.
- While we mainly perform µCT analysis of rodent specimens, we are able to work with clients to analyze the microstructure of many other types of specimens.
Siemens
Inveon Research Workplace (IRW, Siemens medical Solutions)
- Provides state-of-the-art 3D-reconstruction images of the microstructure of specimens.
Trident Specimen Radiography System
-
The Trident™ specimen radiography system includes micro-focused x-ray tube, specimen image processing algorithms and selenium-based detector technology that provides the excellent image quality. With a large, 12 cm x 14 cm active imaging area, the Trident specimen radiography system can accommodate a wide range of biopsy sizes and kinds (i.e., skeleton and soft tissues) from cores to large specimens. Trident’s images can be sent to the PACS or the SecurView® DX diagnostic workstation with the touch of a button, allowing for quick communication and decision making.
Dynamic histomorphometry
Static and dynamic histomorphometry: Sectioning, basic staining, and analysis of rodent bones.
- Plastic processing (NMA), embedding, trimming and sectioning.
- Staining for H&E, Safranin O (cartilage), TRAP (osteoclast), and toluidine bue (osteoblast).
- Osteometrics workstation: Quantitative and qualitative assessment of osteoblasts, osteoclasts, osteocytes, and bone marrow cells. When labeled with fluorochromes, in vivo bone formation activity can be also quantified.
Bone Histology
- Histology: Sectioning and basic staining of rodent bones.
- Paraffin sections: Decalcification processing, paraffin embedding and sectioning.
- Cryosections: Decalcification processing, OCT processing, embedding and sectioning.
- Staining for H&E, Safranin O (cartilage), TRAP (osteoclast), and toluidine blue (osteoblast).
