Jonathan CheahWelcome from the Program Director

Welcome to the Rheumatology training program at UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Memorial Health. This is a two-year ACGME-accredited fellowship which meets all the requirements for ABIM Rheumatology Board eligibility. Many factors contribute to an outstanding learning environment, including:



  • Broad faculty spanning clinicians, basic and translational researchers, as well as educators
  • Diverse interests including rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, osteoarthritis, and osteoporosis
  • A large referral base which is both disease- and patient-agnostic, allowing broad exposure to the full spectrum of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases across all populations
  • Seamless integration with both the medical school and health system, offering a multitude of additional opportunities across multiple disciplines

All of the above and much more at UMass Chan and UMass Memorial Health allow us to meet our ultimate goal: training Rheumatologists who are prepared for practice and committed to contributing to the evolution of our profession.

  • High procedural volume especially at the VA hospital where fellows have ample opportunity to learn skills needed for aspiration and injection of multiple large and small joints
