Data and Sample Retention Policy

Unprocessed (Raw) Data
Mass spectrometry raw data files for UMass Chan and other academic clients are archived for 7 years before deletion. For corporate clients, raw data is archived for 3 years before deletion.

Processed Data
Processed data, including database search results, metadata, and data summaries, are retained for up to 1 year. After this period, retention or deletion is at the discretion of the Facility Director. Most processed data can be regenerated from the archived raw data.

Processed Samples
Remaining processed samples, if applicable, are stored for up to 6 months before disposal.

Unprocessed Samples and Project Materials
Remaining unprocessed samples and project materials are retained for up to 1 year before disposal.

Access to Data and Materials
Data files, remaining samples, or project materials may be requested at any time by contacting the Facility Director.
