Engaged Teaching and Learning Collaborative

Engaged learning is foundational to student success across the health sciences. Early learners at UMass Chan encounter expectations that differ dramatically from prior educational experiences—requiring them not only to acquire knowledge, but to integrate, apply, and reflect on it in complex, real‑world contexts. The Engaged Teaching and Learning Collaborative exists to strengthen these early learning experiences by supporting educators as they design, share, and refine intentional, evidence‑based approaches to engagement that benefit both learners and teachers.

What We Do

  • Expand the number and variety of effective engaged learning experiences in foundational curricula
  • Identify, share, and elevate successful teaching strategies across schools
  • Foster a multi‑school community of educators committed to engaged teaching
  • Surface learner and faculty perspectives on what works—and why
  • Support faculty in developing or refining learning experiences that promote deep understanding
