CITI Training

All UMass Chan investigators and staff are required to complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) online training at https://about.citiprogram.org.

If you have an existing CITI account and need to add University of Massachusetts Worcester as an institutional affiliation, log in to CITI and select "Add Institutional Affiliation."  (Shortcut: Search for "Worcester")

Under the University of Massachusetts Worcester affiliation, you must enter a umassmed.edu email as your institutional email so that your training dates display automatically in RMS eIRB. You are free to enter any emails you choose as your primary and secondary emails. For help finding the institutional email setting, see eIRB Job Aid - CITI Training (https://umassmed.sharepoint.com/sites/RMS/IRB).

TIP: Do not remove other institutional affiliations if you have them. When you add University of Massachusetts Worcester as an additional affiliation and add the applicable courses, CITI will transfer credit for any modules required by UMass Chan that you completed under a different affiliation within the relevant timeframe. You must still complete any modules that are unique to UMass Chan to log a completion date for them and to complete the UMass Chan certification process. Contact CITI support directly with any login or credit transfer questions.

Available Courses

Requirements

Human Subjects Research: Group 1 Biomedical Investigators and Key Personnel Required for all human subjects research. Certificate is valid for three years.
Responsible Conduct of Research Optional
Conflict of Interest (COI) Required for all sponsored research. Certificate is valid for four years.
Good Clinical Practice

Required for all clinical trials. Certificate is valid for three years. Choose one of two:

  • GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs and Biologics (ICH Focus) - This course meets the UMass Chan requirement and the minimum criteria for ICH GCP Investigator Site Personnel Training identified by TransCelerate BioPharma as necessary to enable mutual recognition of GCP training among trial sponsors.
  • NIH - Social & Behavioral Research Best Practices for Clinical Research - This course meets the UMass Chan requirement.
  • Regarding ICH GCP E6 R3 guidance: As of October 15, 2025, CITI updated all of its relevant GCP and other content to align with the new ICH E6(R3) Guideline for Good Clinical Practice. For learners who have completed a GCP course before the Version 3 standards went live there are still steps that can be taken to be E6 (R3) compliant. In your completed courses section of your CITI Program account select the "review courses" button and retake all of the modules in the course. Upon completion this will update the Completion report/certification so that the completion statement reflect the GCP ICH E6 (R3) Standards have been met. Please note that this will not give you a new completion report, but it will update the statement to reflect the new standards. The GCP ICH E6(R3) Announcement Summary explains the new GCP ICH E6 (R3) in more detail.
Clinical Trial Billing Compliance (CTBC) Optional
Research Security Training (Combined) Required for all sponsored research. See Research Security Training for additional information.
