Congratulations to Newly Minted Kate Korobkina, PhD

Date Posted: Tuesday, April 15, 2025

On April 11, 2025, Kate Korobkina successfully defended her PhD thesis. Throughout her time in the lab, Kate distinguished herself as a dedicated leader, recognized for her commitment to scientific rigor and her collaborative spirit in helping colleagues optimize experimental protocols. In 2024, she authored an outstanding publication in Nature Metabolism, revealing that thermogenic mitochondria in brown adipocytes may export TCA cycle intermediates to fuel de novo lipid synthesis. This adaptation may help protect against metabolic stress. Her work also clarified the role of ACLY in mitochondrial homeostasis and thermogenesis. Beyond her own research, Kate made significant contributions to several other projects in the lab. She will continue her research in metabolism as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Ed Chouchani’s lab at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
