Emma Mohlmann Joins the Lab as a PhD Student
Date Posted: Tuesday, June 03, 2025Emma Mohlmann joined the lab as a second-year PhD student in the Program of Molecular Medicine. Originally from Bangor, PA, she attended Boston College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biochemistry and minors in both Global Public Health and Music.
Her research career began during her sophomore year at BC, when she served as an undergraduate researcher in the lab of Sarah McMenamin. They studied craniofacial bone morphology in the context of thyroid hormone production. She then worked as a research assistant at Boston Children’s Hospital in the Department of Endocrinology, under the supervision of David Breault, where she investigated the differentiation of enteroendocrine cells in both the mouse and human intestine. Emma’s research primarily focused on understanding how cellular profiles in the gut are affected under conditions such as obesity, irritable bowel disease, and aging.
Emma's research in our lab will elucidate the effects of adipose tissue browning on mTOR substrates in humans. Additionally, she aims to understand the mechanisms that activate browning through mTOR signaling, to discover potential therapeutic targets for obesity and aging.
