Matthew Hassler, PhD, was the first chemist hired by Anastasia Khvorova when she established her lab in the RNA Therapeutics Institute at UMass Chan Medical School. Dr Hassler built the organic and oligonucleotide chemistry infrastructure of the Khvorova Lab and developed and managed chemistry operations for seven years, including the application for and implementation of a National Institutes of Health equipment award that supported the formation of the Nucleic Acid Chemistry Center. As the NACC Facility Manager, Dr Hassler was promoted to the faculty as an Instructor and appointed as visiting faculty when he left academia to establish another oligonucleotide chemistry lab, this time at Atalanta Therapeutics, a company founded to advance technology developed in the Khvorova Lab for treating neurodegenerative diseases.
