Shadowing

*** This information is strictly for Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery UMass Chan medical student shadowing.

Location/Expectations
You can use EPIC to log-in and confirm the attending clinic vs OR schedule on the day that you plan to shadow. It's a good idea to double-check the schedule prior to going in because the schedule can change. If you are planning on shadowing in the OR, please ensure that you are scrub trained/have access. For assistance with this please contact the surgery interest group.

Ear, Nose, and Throat Interest Group (ENTIG) Shadowing Structure

The ENT Interest Group has streamlined the process to request shadowing experiences with our physicians. Please follow the instructions below.

1. Figure out who you want to shadow - there is a wide range of subspecialties within ENT, so read up on the different people you can shadow to learn more about them:

   Divya Chari, MD	Acoustic Neuromas, Balance Disorders/Vertigo, Cochlear Implants/Hearing Devices	Learners can shadow in clinic and OR. If no prior OR experience, learner should shadow in clinic first.
   Judith Kempfle, MD	Neurotology, Otology	Learners can shadow in clinic and OR, but must shadow in clinic before joining in the OR
   Syed H. Kamil, MBBS, FRCS	General Pediatric Otolaryngology	Learners can shadow in clinic, but must shadow in clinic before joining in the OR
   Christopher J. Ito, MD, MEd	Endoscopic Pituitary & Skull Base Surgery, Sinus Disease, Rhinology, Laryngology, and Sleep Surgery	Learners can shadow in clinic and OR, but must shadow in clinic before joining in the OR

2. Email Frankie Guzman (mailto:frankenia.guzman@umassmed.edu) to schedule shadowing. Before shadowing in the OR, students must first shadow in clinic and be scrub trained. Please include what faculty you would like to shadow and what date(s) and time(s) you are available. Frankie will try her best to accommodate preferences.
   
   
3. Once confirmed, please email the faculty and mention that you have reached out to Frankie and will be joining the faculty in the clinic/OR on a certain date. If shadowing in the OR, please confirm the location with the faculty in your email (University, Hahnemann, etc).
