Vista Discovery Summative Assessments 

  • Attendance-only participation points will weigh 15-20% of total block grade 
  • Skill-based assessment points will weigh up to 85% of total block grade
  • Blanket bonus points will not be offered for an assessment or course
  • To obtain credit for a block, all of the following criteria should be fulfilled:
  • Obtain ≥ 75% total block grade
  • Completion of all mandatory live-participation sessions or equivalent makeup
  • Completion of all required assignments or equivalent makeup
  • Completion of evaluation for the block 

Suggested Grade Distribution for Summative Assessments for Discovery Blocks 

 

Intra-Block Summative Sssessments 

  • Preferred method of delivery is online/weekend 
  • Mid-term exams, if any, could be scheduled in person 

End-of-Block summative assessments 

  • Block Final 
    • 60-80 MCQs; 2 hours duration
    • Cumulative for the block 
  • NBME 
    • End-of-block NBME exams will weigh 5% for P1 through BII, 10% for SMS through GI, and 15% for CVS through endo-repro 
    • Exams will increase in number of questions (and thereby duration) progressing through the curriculum  
    • P1 and P2 – 40 questions (1 hour) 
    • BII through GI – 60 questions (1.5 hours)  
    • CVS through Endo/Repro – 80 questions (2 hours)  

Intra-Block Formative Assessments 

  • Minimum one per week with substantial feedback  
  • Examples:
    • Practice Quizzes (with rationale) 
    • Self-assessments
    • Pre-reading questions
    • Consolidation questions
    • Assignments
    • IODs (Image-of-the-Day)
    • Practice practicals
    • Flashcards
    • U-World questions  

Intra-Block Narrative Assessments 

  • Minimum one per block – desirable to have earlier within the block 
  • Examples of sessions that can generate narrative feedback/assessment:
    • Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
    • Simulations
    • Core Small Group sessions
    • Conference and/or Workshops
