Global Health Partner Sites | Academic Year 2024-2025

Below is a list of the Selected GHP Sites for the 2024-2025 Academic Year.  Additional information will be provided at the GHP Introduction Sessions which will provide an opportunity for interested students to learn more about these sites from UMass Chan faculty and students.

 Kenya

    • Advisor: Dr. Ann Moorman (Infectious Disease & Immunology)
      • Sites: 1. Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in Kisumu or 2. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH)- Public referral hospital, Kisumu
      • Projects: KEMRI - research -- anti-malarial immunity to naturally acquired infections in children; endemic Burkitt lymphoma; JOOTRH - other field and hospital-based projects, clinical shadowing

India

    • Advisors: Dr. Nisha Fahey (Pediatrics) and Dr. Apurv Soni (Medicine)
      • Site: Charutar Arogya Mandal (CAM), Karamsad, Gujarat
      • Projects: prevalence of atrial fibrillation in villages of CAM, storytelling
    • Advisor: Dr. Anindita Deb (Neurology)/Dr. Soaham Desai (Neurology, CAM)
      • Site: Charutar Arogya Mandal (CAM), Karamsad, Gujarat
      • Projects: shadowing in neurology clinic at CAM, clinic-based research project, screening for parkinsonism
    • Advisor: Dr. Apeksha Tripathi (Family Medicine)
      • Site: GSMC/KEM Hospital in Mumbai, India
      • Project: A 4 week summer immersion experience at GSMC/KEM Hospital in Mumbai, that will include shadowing in various disciplines and opportunity to create your own project.  

Dominican Republic

    • Advisor: Dr. Douglas Golenbock (Infectious Disease)
      • Sites: Instituto Dominicano de Estudios Virológics (IDEV- Domincan Institute of Virological Studies) – NGO in- and out-patient clinics, Santo Domingo
      • Projects: viral diseases, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases
      • Language: Spanish preferred

Bolivia

Malawi

    • Advisor: Dr. Brian Lisse (Family Medicine & Community Health)
    • Advisor: Dr. Don Hangen (Orthopedics)
      • Site: Blantyre in Southern Malawi
      • Project: Under mentorship of Dr. Hangen, students will assess and contribute to capacity building in the surgical program in Blantyre, Malawi.  

Vietnam 

    • Advisor: Dr. Hoa Nguyen & Dr. Rajani Sadasivam (PQHS)
      • Site: Northern Vietnam - urban and rural locations
      • Project: Vietnam based work on HIV patients who smoke and looking at smoking cessation through text messaging intervention.
