Message from the Dean
Welcome to the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Office of Admissions
I am delighted that you have reached out to learn about UMass Chan Medical School's T.H. Chan School of Medicine. On our website, you can get detailed information about our admissions process, for both our MD and MD/PhD degree programs. UMass Chan has two regional campuses with unique areas of focus. The Population-Based Urban and Rural Community Health (PURCH) track, based at UMass Chan-Baystate in Springfield, MA, is for students who are committed to learning medicine through the lens of the needs and circumstances of vulnerable communities. Our LEAD@Lahey track, based at UMass Chan-Lahey in Burlington, MA, is for students who intend a career in health care leadership. Please check out our student-led tour on the medical school’s homepage. What excites me the most about being on the faculty here at UMass Chan is how incredibly active and engaged our students are. It is easy to stay in touch with my love for patient care and teaching working side by side with these amazing students.
Our most recent class of 235 students is made up of 65 percent Massachusetts residents and 38 percent out-of-state students. We have a robust and incredibly supportive student community which allows all students to feel at home here regardless of their hometown. I invite you to listen to a podcast about what sets our Vista curriculum apart. Details about deadlines and processes when you apply can be found on the AAMC website and our own academic requirements webpage. We use holistic review and applicant-centered processes in assessing experiences, attributes and metrics of our applicants.
As you navigate the school’s website, I hope you will see the strong, caring, engaged, passionate and inclusive community that is our school. I look forward to receiving your application and learning more about you.
Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@umassmed.edu to get information and support in your application journey.
