Transfer to School

Transfer requests into the MD Program are considered when there is capacity for additional MD students in the T.H. Chan School of Medicine third-year class. Transfer requests are considered only for compelling family-related or humanitarian reasons.

If you are a transfer applicant, you must be currently in good standing at a Liaison Committee on Medical Education accredited medical school. Transfers only occur for the first block of the third year in the UMass Chan Medical School curriculum. Please contact the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Office of Admissions at admissions@umassmed.edu with any questions.

You must take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 by Feb.7 of your application year and pass on your first attempt.

You must submit the following to the T.H. Chan School of Medicine Office of Admissions by Nov. 30 via PeopleSoft:

  • copy of the original American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application
  • official transcript of your medical school grades and narrative comments from all courses as well as official transcripts from all schools listed on the AMCAS application
  • letter of recommendation from the dean of students of your current medical school (or their designee) attesting to your good standing status
  • $100 application fee in (check or money order) payable to UMass Chan
