Clinical Informatics Fellowship at UMass Chan
Train where informatics meets real operational decision-making
This fellowship immerses you with clinical and informatics leaders shaping care for patients across central Massachusetts. These experiences help you develop leadership skills to be an effective informaticist and system leader while honing your technical skills within a system. Our goal is to make you a well-rounded informaticist who will be an ideal candidate for Informatics positions around the country.
Year One: Build your foundation. You'll train as an Epic Physician Builder alongside the inpatient and ambulatory informatics leaders, while shadowing across the full spectrum of clinical roles — physicians, pharmacy, nursing, case management, PT, and OT. A series of projects will sharpen your technical skills and teach you to develop your leadership skills. In the spring, you'll begin planning the capstone that will be the major deliverable at the end of year two.
Year Two: Go deep. Dedicated rotations take you into the areas driving the future of the field:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Advanced Decision Support
- System leadership
- Radiology informatics
- Research informatics
- Capstone completion
Themes like AI and System Leadership don't stay confined to their blocks — they are woven through the fellowship.

The essentials
- This is a two-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship at UMass Chan Medical School and UMass Memorial Health
- Open to physicians from any specialty who have completed an accredited residency.
- Graduates are eligible for board certification in Clinical Informatics through the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
